Your child’s education is a big deal, and if you’re looking for the perfect private school, it’s important to know your options. These days, extracurricular activities may include anything from band and chorus to graphic design classes and riflery. Some schools even offer tuition assistance. Overview: Augusta Preparatory Day School was founded in 1960 as the only independent, co-educational, non-sectarian school in the area. Augusta Prep is a preschool through 12th grade. Overview: Half-day program runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. School year runs September through May. Experienced Georgia-certified kindergarten teacher, state of Georgia curriculum guidelines are followed. Math, reading skills, science and social studies are taught for preparation for first grade. Teacher-pupil ratio is 2:14. Weekly chapel time and Christian principles are included.
Tuition: Monthly tuition is $145. Registration began in January.

Academics: Rigorous educational program characterized by academic excellence. In the elementary school, students focus on math, reading, language, spelling, social studies, science and Bible. Co-curricular classes for the elementary school include library, art, music and physical education, and students attend weekly chapels. In the preparatory school, in addition to traditional academics and Bible, students can choose from Latin, Greek and Spanish for their foreign language. Advanced placement courses are available in English literature, English language, calculus, biology, chemistry, Latin-Vergil, Latin literature, Spanish, European history, U.S. government, politics and U.S. history. Electives include art, computer, chorale, band, physical education, debate, drama and yearbook.
Athletics: In the middle and high schools, students choose between baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross-country, track and field, golf, soccer, swimming, softball and tennis.
